Marsha McDonald Artist Statement:
As a creative woman, I call myself to witness and answer to living, at this moment in time, in the world. That’s a lifetime’s work and reworking. As time changes me, my art practice changes, and my materials also change. Presently, I use photography, painting, video, and writing. I like to think of my former selves handing on a living baton that each one of us is born to, a flame that we each carry in this life, urging successive selves forward.
My writing and art have helped me not only center myself in the present, but to remember and to project myself into an unforeseen future. To me, my creativity is an exercise in expansion. I can grow imaginative places, characters, or objects that remain as signposts to my ideas and emotions, but also reseed, inviting others to think and feel their way into a creative space.
