The act of creating is stepping into my real self…it is purest freedom.

Karen Sides Artist Statement:

This work portrays a pregnant angel standing alone in the desert, her wings still intact, graced by the beauty of the natural world. Though challenges abound, her feminine strength and divine nature propel her forward in grace and gratitude.

Divine love gathers around
a lone angel in the desert.
Bringing new life
into an uncertain world
does not diminish her hopes,
as she herself is cradled in
in the arms of a thousand
angels before her.

As a visual artist and poet with an expressionist heart, I define myself as a deep diving explorer of colors, shapes and imagery that reflect women in the process of healing from female oriented traumas including loss, betrayal, and violence. I am a wanderer with roots in California, Montana, Arizona and currently, Texas. I am 69 years old, a daughter, mother, grandmother, ex-wife, sister, aunt, caretaker, teacher, neighbor and friend. All these roles continue to influence my personal growth in a significant way, fueling my desire to share my art and poetry and delve into the work of others.
