Melissa Tomlinson Newell
Currently an Art Instructor at Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood, Washington, I have found a new form of creative expression in writing. In addition to making art and serving as co-chair in the Visual Arts, my work includes community art advocacy projects focused on art education. I have served as a juror for numerous exhibits and public works projects and led workshops for adults and children since 1984. When I begin the creative process it is always as a result of asking myself, what is it that makes me human? Can I, through my art and writing, reveal and explore my humanity? Can I become a better person? Can I find ways to connect to people, places or ideas that are very foreign to me? Can I become a better mother, wife, friend, teacher, global citizen, advocate, or artist through this creative process? I am not sure, but I am trying.
