Karina Puente
Karina Puente started her journey as a professional artist when she exhibited her work for the first time at age fourteen and can’t remember when art didn’t exist in her life. Surprisingly as an adult, she has managed to retain the distinct, and enviable, child-like quality of being inspired. She is kin to the creative process and offers insight on inspiration through teachings and speaking engagements. A word Puente excitedly uses often is “vision” always recreating her style. That explains, in part, why she has delved into several media such as oil paint, pastel, installation and illustration by day, only put them all aside to create mural designs by night. Puente states that she wants to make art that will inspire –as still images— a movement of positive breakthroughs. “I paint strong female figures of all skin colors and cultural backgrounds. I paint women as heroes, guardians, and queens encouraging the viewer to see the best in herself reflected in the strength of the characters I depict”. Puente is currently producing sketches she calls “blueprints for big projects”. Medicinal Plants and drawn flower-diagrams are growing their way into her work. Puente is set to lead community mural paint days and is preparing artwork for solo exhibitions. Visual Artist-In-Residence; Desert Delight Contributor.
