Gift of Freedom Award Recipients

2007

Summer Wood is a largely self-taught writer from Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is the recipient of the 2006-2007 Gift of Freedom Award in Fiction. The finalists were Kirsten Dinnall Hoyte, Rebecca Meacham, Michele Moore, and Mary Ellen Sanger. Click here for more information about Summer.

2004

Meredith Hall of Pownal, Maine was chosen as the recipient of the 2003-04 Gift of Freedom Award for Creative Nonfiction. Finalists for the award were Mira Bartok, Ann Daum Kustar, Rebecca Skloot, Eliot Sloan, and Lois Williams. Click here for more information about Meredith.

2003

The 2003 Visual Gift of Freedom Award for sculpture was awarded to Jeannine Harkleroad of Richmond, Virginia. Click here for more information about Jeannine and her work. Katie Grinnan and Hilja Keading were the finalists for the award.

2002

The recipient of the Foundation’s first Gift of Freedom Award in June 2001 was Jennifer Tseng of Los Angeles, who received $50,000 over two years to create a book of poetry. Click here for more information about Jennifer.
