Abbie Reese, Visual Artist in Residence

Abbie Reese is an independent scholar and interdisciplinary artist. She is author of Dedicated to God: An Oral History of Cloistered Nuns (Oxford University Press) and filmmaker of the collaborative ethnographic and documentary work-in-progress, Chosen (Custody of the Eyes). In her relationship- and research-based practice, Abbie utilizes oral history and ethnographic methodologies to explore individual and cultural identity, public and private performances, and the liminal phase as one transitions social roles. She received a Master of Fine Arts in visual arts from the University of Chicago. and she was a Fellow at the Columbia University Oral History Research Office Summer Institute. During the AROHO 2015 retreat, Abbie will conduct oral history interviews for AROHO and she will also begin work on a project focused on the interplay between notions of celebrity and value. www.abbiereese.com Video Artist in Residence
